FAQs
What do I get with my kitten?
When you adopt a kitten from Savannah Kitten Home, we provide you with a comprehensive kitten care package. This package includes two adorable sweaters to keep your kitten cozy, a selection of toys to stimulate their playfulness, and delicious treats to reward their good behavior. We also offer a three-generation pedigree lineage for your kitten, allowing you to trace their ancestry. If you choose to register your kitten with TICA (The International Cat Association), we will provide you with all the necessary information to complete the registration process. Additionally, we offer a three-year guarantee against congenital defects and HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy), a heart condition, ensuring the well-being of your kitten. Our commitment to you and your kitten extends beyond the adoption process, as we provide lifetime support for any questions or concerns you may have. We genuinely enjoy receiving updates on our cats, so please feel free to share pictures and videos with us. We are here to assist you every step of the way.
Do you offer stud services or sell cats for breeding purposes?
No, we do not provide stud services or sell cats for breeding purposes. Our primary focus is on the well-being and health of our kittens. Therefore, our cattery is closed to protect the kittens from potential health risks.
What medical testing do I need to do on my Savannah?
Immunizations are essential for maintaining your kitten’s health. However, it is crucial to find a veterinarian who is familiar with the specific needs of the Savannah breed. Some Savannah cats can have adverse reactions to certain vaccines, so it’s important to consult with a knowledgeable veterinarian. We recommend administering four FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia) vaccinations and one rabies vaccination during the first year of your kitten’s life. Afterward, annual FVRCP and rabies vaccinations should be administered for their entire life. Please note that we advise against vaccinating your kitten for FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), ringworm, or Giardia. We do not offer any warranty for adverse reactions to these or any other future vaccinations. Additionally, it is required that all current cats in your home undergo a combo test for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) and Leukemia before introducing your new Savannah kitten. Lastly, we strongly recommend an annual echocardiogram to detect HCM, a heart condition that can occur in the Savannah breed. Although we conduct annual scans on our breeding cats and selectively breed, HCM is inherent in the Savannah breed.
Do you have an outcrossing program?
Yes, we have a carefully designed outcrossing program that aims to introduce genetic diversity into the Savannah breed. Our program exclusively uses specific breeds that have been approved by TICA (The International Cat Association), ensuring responsible and well-planned breeding practices.
What do I do if my cat gets sick?
We stand behind the health and well-being of our kittens. We guarantee their health for 48 hours after pick-up, and we extend this guarantee until the age of three for life-threatening congenital defects, including HCM. If your cat becomes sick, we kindly ask you to contact us immediately. However, after the 48-hour health check, you will be responsible for any illnesses or health issues your cat may experience. It is important to note that the breeder cannot be held accountable for future diagnoses of FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus), FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus), or any other bacterial, viral, infectious diseases, or parasites that may be contracted outside the cattery.
How do I know you’re a legitimate breeder?
We understand the importance of ensuring that you are dealing with a reputable breeder.
We understand the importance of ensuring that you are dealing with a reputable breeder. To verify our legitimacy, we want to provide you with the necessary information and transparency. Savannah Kitten Home is a registered cattery with TICA (The International Cat Association). Our website is linked to our TICA registration, allowing you to verify our credentials and commitment to responsible breeding practices. We prioritize the health of our cats and conduct annual HCM scans on our breeding cats. We are also more than willing to accommodate a FaceTime call to give you a virtual tour of our cattery and introduce you to our beautiful Savannah cats. We advise caution when considering purchasing a kitten from a cattery that is not registered with TICA, does not conduct annual HCM scans, or refuses to engage in a FaceTime call. Scammers can be sophisticated and employ deceptive tactics, so it’s important to be vigilant. If a cattery offers unusually low prices or requests payment through Western Union, exercise caution and thoroughly research before proceeding. It’s essential to choose a breeder who produces kittens within their own cattery, conducts genetic testing, HCM scans, HCM gene testing, and holds TICA registration.
